Cat care and health

There are many diseases and health issues that can affect cats and kittens.  It is important that they are looked after and cared for to prevent them from becoming ill.  There are many ways to prevent illness, but unfortunately sometimes it is inevitable and unpreventable.

To help keep cats healthy and happy they should be regularly vaccinated, treated for parasites and have regular check-ups at the vets.  At home they should be fed a well-balanced diet, designed for cats and groomed often.

Cat care and health

Caring for a cat does not need to be hard work or expensive.  As independant creatures, cats are more than willing to fend for themselves outside.  However, some breeds should be kept indoors to keep them safe.  These breeds include:

  • Bengal
  • Persian
  • Ragdoll

Other cats who should be kept indoors are those that live with highly contagious diseases such as Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

You can buy or build an outdoor pen though, to allow them access to the fresh air.  Make sure it has platforms and non-toxic plants so that they are able to climb and explore.
