Welcome to Challenge 15 -- a wide open contest for all about Cats
New information for Voting
DEADLINE for entry submissions was Thursday, Oct 22 2009 Midnight GMT (7 pm New England time)
We had 16 entrants in total, all posted below. Articles are displayed in reverse order. Our two most recent entries are posted at the top of the left column below.
VOTING is now complete. Instructions for voting are posted below.
Please be sure to read all the articles BEFORE you decide on your contest votes.
Once you've read all the submissions, please decide your FIRST and SECOND place votes. Place your votes here on the Challenge Zone, by adding a new Comment.
Vote by Member Name, to avoid any confusion, like this:
"I vote for Geo Washington first place, and for Thom Jefferson second place"
Please add SHORT comments for each vote, like this:
"Geo's article was well written and funny, too!
Thom's article was also excellent, though not as engrossing"
Note that you are not allowed to vote for your own article.
If you'd like to add additional comments about your votes, or about any or all of the entered articles, please add a fresh reply to the Challenge Thread. You can repeat your votes there, if you like, but please be sure to post them here on the zone so we all can find them.
Questions? Ask them by replying to the Challenge Thread. Please don't start additional Group threads, as this gets confusing.
Thanks to all of our talented author entrants! These were fantastic, start to finish. It's been wonderful having so many new contestants, too.
Let's talk about your cat! Join the fun right here.
Do you love cats?
Do you despise them? Would your dog be mad if you brought home a tabby?
Do you find cats to be mysterious and aloof, or entirely lovable and the perfect companion?
How many cats live in your house -- 1? None? 100?
One way or another, most of us have an opinion, an emotional response, some good advice, or a great story about a cat, or cats in general.
That's what Challenge 15 is all about. We're looking for one new, original article or essay from you that has something to do with cats.
THE WORD "CAT" SHOULD APPEAR IN THE TITLE
We'll accept poems, short stories, testimonials, cat-care tips, cat breed reviews -- whatever venue suits you will be fine. Choose wisely, of course, because your submission will compete head to head with everyone else's.We can create new titles if you need them. Check the site first, though. One member mentioned finding about six pages of cat titles available.
TO ENTER, you'll post the link and a blurb about your submission on the Challenge 15 Zone (right here), in the Comments section. You can post yourj entries on the challenge thread, too, but it's important to gather a list of contestants right on the zone. That's where our votes will be entered, too.
What's in it for you?
- Fame: a possible front page feature (not guaranteed)
- Fortune: huge cash prizes will be yours (ask Glory Lennon, our previous winner)
- Notoriety: a chance to socialize with like-minded writers here at Helium
Will your entered articles score big pennies, like our How To pieces did? I doubt it, but you never know until you post them. There are a LOT of cat-oriented websites, however, so you might just find yourself a few dollars richer from a Stock Content sale down the road.
We need five contest entrants to make things official. Ten would be great. Anything over ten boosts the final cash prize by $1 per contestant. So bring your friends. Once we have a good contest crew we'll close off new submissions and open up the challenge for your votes.
Submit your cat photos for display on the Challenge Thread. Add links there for any cat-related zones, blogs, or favorite websites, too -- we love to share and promote.
Questions? Post those right here, too.
PLEASE NOTE: We've changed the page format
